The end result was an entire console generation that came and went without a new Grand Theft Auto game to play, though Rockstar attempted to fill the gap with new versions of GTA 5 as well as open world western Red Dead Redemption 2. With Grand Theft Auto Online still one of the most popular multiplayer games in the world, Rockstar Games has focused on releasing new content updates for it instead of putting more effort into Grand Theft Auto 6. The unprecedented success of Grand Theft Auto 5 made it so Rockstar Games wasn't in any kind of rush to put out the next installment in the blockbuster franchise, especially with the GTA Online multiplayer mode still popular to this day. Fans have been waiting a decade for Grand Theft Auto 6, and while it's highly unlikely that the open world game will release this year, GTA fans may still have reason to be excited for 2023.
